This calculator starts with the approved project definition: Installs one walk-in bathtub in an existing bathing location. It excludes demolition/disposal, major floor reinforcement, major plumbing relocation, and a full-bath remodel. The national range is multiplied by the published state planning adjustment connected to your ZIP. It does not combine unrelated project categories into the same baseline.

What can still change a local quote?
- Removal, hauling, and disposal when existing materials must come out
- Existing plumbing and drain conditions within the project footprint
- Waterproofing, wall repair, and concealed moisture findings
- Selections and access requirements that need a site-specific written scope
- Permit requirements and contractor availability
The calculator does not assign unapproved dollars to these factors. Ask each contractor to identify them in writing so estimates are comparable.
Planning questions people ask
How is the state adjustment selected?
Your first three ZIP digits identify a U.S. state or District of Columbia. The calculator then reads that state’s approved multiplier from the master rate card. An invalid or unsupported ZIP does not receive a made-up adjustment.
Why is demolition optional?
The project baseline deliberately excludes demolition and disposal to prevent double counting. Select it only when old materials must be removed and disposed of for this project.
Why does the calculator show materials and labor shares?
The approved rate card defines the midpoint split as 55% materials and 45% labor. These are planning shares of the rate-card midpoint, not an itemized contractor estimate.
What should I do after seeing my result?
Use the range to prepare a clear scope, then request local estimates that state materials, exclusions, removal, site conditions, and timing. Free quotes are the next step—not a requirement to see the planning number.
